About The game takes place on the Eastern Front of the First World War, and was inspired by one of the most iconic encirclement battles in history. The Battle of Tannenberg in 1914 is perhaps the ultimate Eastern Front battle and the site of one of the most dramatic victories of the entire war as the Russian Second Army was dealt a significant blow by the Germans.
Tannenberg immerses players into WW1 warfare with 64 players battling across large maps where the objectives and battle lines are always shifting. There is a wealth of historical detail including realistic WW1 weaponry, authentic uniforms, horrendous gore, and maps inspired by real battlefields, this time in the forests, plains and mountains of East Germany, Roumania, Bulgaria and Russia.
The gameplay is as immersive and gritty as it can get with authentic weaponry, artillery and gas, and the option for shocking gore. Each gun handles differently with realistic bullet physics and penetration mechanics that means a thin wooden fence won’t protect you like a stone wall. Every map has multiple sectors giving different advantages to whoever can control them, as well as weather variants to contend with… fighting in the midday snow is very different to combat in the darkness of a misty night. You will need smart tactics to handle squads like the Russian Cossacks, the Austro-Hungarian K.u.K. Trupp, plus Roumanian and Bulgarian Infantry. Every squad has their own weapon loadouts, and special abilities reflecting their historical performance in the war.
The development team recreates the atmosphere of the Eastern Front with the same level of accuracy seen in Verdun. Uniforms have been recreated to the tiniest detail, the weapons are modeled to exact references and the maps use realistic props and terrain layouts. Whether the fighting takes place in dark forests, Russian villages or snowy plains, everything from the interface to the sound effects and voices will immerse you in the battle. Keep your head down or quickly don your mask in the event of artillery strikes or gas attacks. This unforgiving war isn’t for the faint hearted!
